Precision Machining High-Performance Polyurethanes

Machining cast polyurethane requires a thoughtful approach due to its unique material properties, especially its low thermal conductivity and elastic memory. These characteristics can lead to heat buildup and dimensional changes during machining, if not properly managed. Harder formulations (above 70 Shore A) can be machined using conventional metalworking techniques, while softer grades require alternative methods like grinding, sanding, or cryogenic processing. Precision fixturing, tool geometry, and cooling strategies are essential to maintain part integrity and dimensional accuracy.
